Self-Paced Courses
Self-Paced courses are essentially SELF STUDY COURSES. In a Self-Paced
computer course the student reads the textbook and supplemental materials,
does the assignments on the computer, checks the assignments against available
answer keys, turns in the assignment, and then moves on to the next assignment
- These courses are recommended for students who:
- 1. are self-motivated
- 2. are strong readers
- 3. have good problem-solving skills
- 4. manage time well and can set their own deadlines
- 5. have had some exposure to computers
- The Self-Paced environment offers students the ability to set a flexible
schedule within the hours the Center for Instructional Computing (CIC) is open.
It is recommended that students spend 3-4 hours per week in the CIC, and no more
than 2 hours in one day. Note that computers are available on a first-come,
first-served basis. Students may enroll in Self-Paced courses throughout most of
the semester.
- Students who enroll for Self-Paced courses MUST ATTEND AN ORIENTATION SESSION.
Call 732-7011 for more information. The one hour orientation
is held in the Center for Instructional Computing and provides information about
textbooks, class supplies, computer software and equipment, methods for receiving
help, and more. Students enrolling in Self-Paced courses after scheduled orientations
MUST contact the instructor to arrange for individualized orientations.
