Welcome to First Year Composition 

Welcome to Perspectives, an online site devoted to the exploration of culture, society, and its many voices as they are expressed within the context of language and composition.  

The ways in which we express ourselves through language demonstrate our intimate connection with it.  Without language, we would be unable to define ourselves, nor would we be able to define and express our understanding of the world as we perceive it.

Just as a simple photo has the ability to capture a particular moment in time and space, a single word or phrase has the power to communicate volumes.  Within the magical presence of a single word, our unique perspectives and understandings are revealed to those who would listen.   

During the time and space allotted for this course, I challenge you to listen to the many voices and perspectives you will hear.  Listen for your own voice and the perspectives from which you speak.  Develop that voice. Learn to use it in a variety of circumstances, for a variety of audiences and purposes.
