![]() MARCUS DENTON is well-known to Arizonans as a dynamic music educator and is a sought-after voice teacher, director and performer. He holds a B.A. in Education from Arizona State University and an M.M. in Vocal Performance from Brigham Young University. Prior to coming to CGCC in 1991, he taught at Mesa Community College, Arizona State University and Brigham Young University in vocal, choral, music theater and piano areas. Mr. Denton has musically directed over 50 productions with Mesa Community College Opera Theater, Chandler-Gilbert Community College Performing Arts, Southwest Shakespeare Co., Gilbert Fine Arts Association and Mesa Musical Theater. In October of 1996, he won the "Arizoni" Theater Award of Excellence for Best Musical Director of a musical in Arizona for his direction of Westside Story. Locally, he has performed several major roles with A.S.U. Lyric Opera and has soloed with such organizations as the Phoenix Symphony, and ASU Symphony and Choral Union. He has sung extensively in other areas of the United States and in Europe as an Early Music Performer, including guest tenor soloist at the 1982 International Baroque Festival, and a 1982 tour with the Israel Chamber Orchestra. Mr. Denton is past president of the Arizona chapter of the National Association of Teachers in Singing. Several of his former students have achieved professional recognition as singers. He resides in Mesa with his wife, Denna, and their five sons. |
