Personal

Bilingual from birth. Grew up speaking both Spanish and English in the home as a result of having a Costa Rican mother and an American father. Lived in San Jose, Costa Rica for thirteen years where she studied six years at a bilingual school and two years at Spanish-speaking schools. Lived and studied in Ponce, Puerto Rico for one academic year graduating with honors from Liceo Ponceno High School in 1970.

Taught Spanish in Spain for six weeks in 1989 for an ASU Summer Abroad Program. Has developed a very successful yearly cultural awareness travel program and has taken students to countries in all seven continents.

National Executive Secretary for Sigma Delta Mu, a Spanish National Honor Society; CGCC Advisor for Sigma Delta Mu; and member of Alpha Mu Gamma, Foreign Language National Honor Society. Served as Faculty Association Treasurer at CGCC for two consecutive years and is chair of the International/Intercultural Education Committee.

Loves and understands people of all ages and of all cultures and backgrounds. Is fascinated with things that are different and out of the ordinary. Enjoys teaching, traveling, the outdoors, gardening, eating foreign foods, and shopping.

Married for 34 years and is mother to one daughter and three sons and grandmother to five grandsons.
